Full-Time EMS Position
Stafford County Emergency Services has an opening for a full time EMT or Advanced level provider. Stafford County Emergency Services serves a rural population of approximately 4,208 people throughout a 792 square mile service area with a call volume of 400 calls per year. The department works under protocols designed to provide care to patients in a rural setting. With prolonged transport times and bypass protocols, our EMS personnel must have strong critical thinking skills and be comfortable caring for patients for long periods of time. During daytime hours, we staff two units based out of the St John location, ready to respond to the 400-450 requests for services we provide each year. We staff the office 8a-5pm, M-F, taking call from home outside office hours. After office hours, this position will be required to take call from home 6pm-6am in our St John location in a 48 on/48 off schedule block with every other weekend off. There is not a residency requirement to reside in the city of St. John, living quarters are available to accommodate night shift call which is required, however relocation to the county would be beneficial. Qualified applicants should possess a Kansas EMT certification at a minimum, current CPR certification, and valid Kansas driver’s license. Salary is commensurate with experience and education. Stafford County, Kansas is a flat county punctuated with grass-covered sand dunes whose economy thrives on agriculture, oil and utilities. The County partners with local municipalities and economic development on projects to promote growth. It's home to roughly 4,200 residents in South Central Kansas.
St. John is home to the County Seat and roughly 1,200 residents. Stafford sits on the eastern edge of the county in a Federal Opportunity Zone and is the second largest city in the County with around 1,000 residents. Macksville sits at the western edge of the County and is home to 600 residents. Hudson sits at the northeast corner of the County and is home to Stafford County Flour Mills and around 100 people. Radium and Seward line the northern edge of the county.
Stafford County is also home to the largest man-made inland salt water marsh in the United States (Quivira National Wildlife Refuge). The marsh welcomes hundreds of thousands of birds to the County each year. It's a bird watcher's dream destination. Visitors who come for the outdoors will also find small, unique communities, rural experiences and hidden treasures.
